Who writes our reviews

Every review and guide on MattressQuiz is produced by the MattressQuiz editorial team - a small group of UK-based mattress researchers. We are not a manufacturer, a retailer, or a single anonymous blogger. We spend our days reading product specifications, sleep research, and real owner feedback so we can explain, in plain English, which mattress suits which sleeper.

We write for UK readers, using UK sizing (single, double, king, super king), UK pricing, and UK availability. When we mention a feature, a firmness, or a material, it is because we have checked it against the manufacturer's own information.

How we research

Our reviews are built on three things, and nothing else:

• Verified specifications, cross-checked. We take the dimensions, materials, firmness, depth, and construction from the manufacturer and seller listings, and we cross-check them across sources. We never invent a spec. If we cannot confirm a detail, we leave it out rather than guess.
• Genuine owner feedback. We read through thousands of verified UK purchase reviews to understand how each mattress actually performs over weeks and months - comfort over time, how it sleeps for couples, whether it runs warm, how it holds up. This real-world feedback shapes our verdicts as much as the specs do.
• Category knowledge. We apply what we know about mattress construction and sleep - how memory foam differs from hybrid and pocket spring, what firmness suits each sleeping position and body weight, what materials help with temperature regulation - so we can put each mattress in context rather than just listing its features.

How we score

Alongside each review we publish an editorial "Our score". It is our own assessment, expressed out of 100, that weighs up four things:

The score reflects how well a mattress performs on merit for the sleepers it is aimed at. Commission never influences it. A mattress that pays us nothing and a mattress that earns us a commission are scored on exactly the same criteria. We would rather tell you a popular product is mediocre than inflate a score to earn more.

How we rank

When we put together a "best of" guide - best for back pain, best cooling mattress, best for couples, and so on - we rank by suitability for that specific need first. A mattress only appears near the top of a guide if its construction, firmness, and owner feedback genuinely fit the brief.

Ranking is not for sale. Position in a list is never decided by which retailer pays the most, and we do not accept payment from manufacturers to feature, move up, or include a product.

What we will not do

• We will not invent specifications, test results, or quotes.
• We will not let commission decide a score or a ranking.
• We will not accept payment from a manufacturer in exchange for a better review or placement.
• We will not present marketing claims as if they were independently verified facts.
• We will not recommend a mattress we would not consider for the sleeper we are writing for.
